Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 21 August 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to the use of www.selenatasoy.com and provide general information about the professional services offered by Dr Selen Atasoy (“I”, “me”, “my”).
Please read these Terms carefully before using this website or enquiring about working with me.
If we agree to work together through therapy or Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction, our work will also be governed by a separate client agreement setting out the specific arrangements for that work, including fees, payment arrangements and any other terms relevant to the service provided.
Where there is any inconsistency between these website Terms and a separately agreed client agreement, the client agreement will apply to our professional work together, subject always to applicable law.
1. About Me and My Services
I am a neuroscientist, consciousness researcher and BACP-registered counsellor in private practice.
Through this website I provide information about my work in:
neuroscience and consciousness research
counselling and therapy
Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction
meditation, kundalini awakening, spiritual emergence and other non-ordinary or transformative experiences
writing, talks, research and public education
I also link to MeTruely, a separate platform through which I offer self-paced courses and psychoeducational resources.
My therapeutic work is undertaken in accordance with the ethical and professional standards applicable to my practice, including the BACP Ethical Framework.
The title “Dr” refers to my academic PhD and does not mean that I am a medical doctor, psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.
2. Website Information
The material on this website is provided for general information, education and reflection.
Although some of the content draws upon neuroscience, psychology, therapeutic practice and consciousness research, nothing on this website should be understood as individual medical or psychiatric advice.
Reading the website, contacting me, submitting an enquiry form or booking an introductory conversation does not in itself create a therapeutic relationship.
A therapeutic or professional relationship begins only when we have mutually agreed to work together and the relevant arrangements have been confirmed.
If you have concerns that require medical assessment, diagnosis, medication advice or urgent psychiatric assessment, you should seek support from an appropriately qualified medical professional, such as your GP, psychiatrist or another relevant healthcare provider.
3. Therapy
Therapy is offered subject to an initial conversation and mutual agreement that working together is appropriate.
Where ongoing therapy is agreed, sessions are normally held weekly and a regular appointment time may be reserved for you.
The specific arrangements for your therapy, including session length, frequency, fees, payment arrangements and any other practical details, will be confirmed privately before or when our work begins.
Therapy is collaborative and its course and outcome cannot be predicted or guaranteed. At times, therapeutic work may involve encountering difficult emotions, memories, conflicts or periods of uncertainty.
You are welcome to raise concerns about our work, reconsider whether therapy is right for you, or discuss ending therapy at any point.
4. Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction
I offer psychological preparation, integration and harm-reduction support in relation to expanded and non-ordinary states of consciousness, including experiences arising through:
psychedelics
meditation and intensive retreats
kundalini awakening
spiritual emergence
mystical or peak experiences
significant dreams or symbolic experiences
holographic breathwork
other expanded or non-ordinary states of consciousness
My work is focused on psychological preparation, harm reduction, grounding, reflection, meaning-making and integration.
Psychedelic substances
Where psychedelics are involved, I do not:
provide, sell or supply psychedelic or other controlled substances
prescribe psychedelic substances
administer substances
arrange for another person to supply substances
facilitate the acquisition of illegal substances
advise clients on how to evade or circumvent the law
Nothing on this website or within my professional services should be interpreted as encouraging or facilitating the unlawful possession, supply or use of controlled substances.
Where psychedelic experiences are discussed, this takes place within the context of psychological preparation, harm reduction, reflection or integration.
You remain responsible for your own choices and for complying with the laws applicable to you and to the place in which you are located.
Preparation and harm reduction
Preparation and harm-reduction work may include exploring psychological readiness, intentions, expectations, fears, personal history, patterns of coping, support systems, boundaries, potential vulnerabilities and ways of reducing foreseeable psychological risks.
Harm reduction is intended to support informed and safer decision-making. It does not constitute encouragement to use a controlled substance and does not guarantee that an experience will be safe, beneficial or free from psychological or physical difficulty.
Psychedelic and other expanded-state experiences can be psychologically and physically unpredictable.
I do not provide medical screening, medication advice or medical assessment of whether a particular substance is physically safe for you.
Questions concerning physical health, medication interactions, medical contraindications or the need for psychiatric assessment should be discussed with an appropriately qualified medical professional.
Integration
Integration work provides a space to explore, process and make sense of experiences that have already occurred and to consider how insights, difficulties, emotions or changes arising from them may be integrated into everyday life.
I do not impose a particular interpretation on expanded-state experiences and do not claim to determine whether an experience is psychological, spiritual, symbolic, neurological or metaphysical in nature.
Different ways of understanding an experience may be explored where this is useful to you.
Limits of the service
Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction is not a substitute for emergency, medical or psychiatric care.
If I believe that your needs fall outside my competence or scope of practice, or that another form of professional support is required, I may recommend that you seek additional or alternative support before beginning or continuing our work.
5. Introductory Conversations
I may offer an introductory conversation before therapy or Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction begins.
The purpose of this conversation is for you to tell me briefly what brings you, for me to explain how I work, and for both of us to consider whether working together appears appropriate.
An introductory conversation:
is not a therapy session
is not a medical or psychiatric assessment
does not create an obligation for either of us to continue
does not guarantee that I will be able to offer you ongoing work
I reserve the right to decline to work with someone where I believe the service requested is outside my competence, scope of practice or capacity, or where another form of support would be more appropriate.
6. Sessions and Regular Appointments
Where ongoing weekly therapy is agreed, I will normally reserve the same appointment time for you each week.
Sessions are generally of the duration agreed with you before our work begins.
Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction appointments may differ in length and structure from regular therapy and will be agreed separately.
Sessions may take place face-to-face or online, depending upon the arrangement agreed between us.
If a face-to-face therapy client is temporarily unable to attend in person, it may sometimes be possible to hold the session online instead, subject to prior agreement.
7. Cancellation and Non-Attendance
Because appointments are reserved specifically for you, I require at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session.
Where less than 48 hours' notice is given, or where you do not attend a confirmed appointment, the full agreed session fee will normally remain payable.
This policy reflects the fact that the appointment time has been reserved specifically for you and may not be possible to offer to another client at short notice.
I may exercise discretion in exceptional circumstances.
Where possible, I will try to offer an alternative appointment, but I cannot guarantee that another time will be available.
If I need to cancel a session, you will not be charged. If you have already paid for a session that I cancel, the payment will either be credited towards a rearranged appointment or returned to you.
Nothing in this section affects any statutory consumer rights that apply to you.
8. Planned Breaks and Absences
For ongoing therapy, please let me know as early as possible about planned holidays or other periods when you know you will be unavailable.
I will give you as much notice as reasonably possible of my own planned leave.
From time to time I may also need to cancel or rearrange an appointment because of illness, emergency or circumstances outside my reasonable control.
Where this happens, I will make reasonable efforts to let you know and, where possible, offer an alternative appointment.
9. Late Attendance
Please arrive or join your session at the agreed appointment time.
If you arrive late, the session will normally still end at the originally agreed time because I may have another client or professional commitment immediately afterwards.
I cannot guarantee that time lost through late arrival can be made up.
10. Online Sessions
Where sessions take place online, you are responsible for finding a private and reasonably secure space in which you feel able to speak freely.
You are also responsible for the internet connection and equipment you use.
I will take reasonable steps to use appropriate and secure systems for online work.
Occasional technical difficulties can occur. If a significant technical failure prevents a session from taking place, we will discuss an appropriate way of rearranging or completing the session depending upon the circumstances.
If you are joining an online session from outside the United Kingdom, please tell me where you will physically be located. Professional, insurance and legal requirements can vary between jurisdictions and may affect whether I am able to work with you from that location.
11. Contact Between Sessions
I encourage therapeutic concerns and material arising from our work to be explored within sessions wherever possible.
You may contact me between sessions for practical matters such as scheduling or, where necessary, a brief non-urgent message.
I will aim to respond to non-urgent communications within approximately 48 hours, unless I am on planned leave or otherwise unavailable.
Email, text messaging and website contact forms should not be used for emergencies or crisis support.
I cannot guarantee continuous availability between sessions.
12. Crisis and Emergency Support
I do not provide an emergency, crisis or on-call mental-health service.
If you believe that you or another person is in immediate danger, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E department.
For urgent medical or mental-health concerns that are not an immediate emergency, you may contact your GP or NHS 111.
The Samaritans can also be contacted on 116 123.
Please do not rely on email, text messages, website contact forms or messages to me for urgent help, as I cannot guarantee when I will see or respond to them.
13. Alcohol and Non-Prescribed Drugs During Sessions
Please do not attend a therapy, preparation or integration session while significantly under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.
Meaningful therapeutic work requires a sufficient level of awareness, consent and capacity to engage.
If I reasonably believe that you are too intoxicated or impaired to participate safely or meaningfully, I may decide not to begin the session or may bring the session to an end.
This does not apply simply because you are taking appropriately prescribed medication.
If medication or substance use is relevant to the work, I encourage you to discuss this openly with me.
14. Confidentiality
Confidentiality is central to therapeutic work.
Information you share with me in therapy or Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction sessions will ordinarily be kept confidential, subject to the limits described below, in your individual client agreement and in my Privacy Policy.
Confidentiality is not absolute.
There may be circumstances in which I need to share information without your consent, including where:
I reasonably believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person
safeguarding concerns arise
disclosure is required by law or by a court order
there is another legally or ethically recognised justification for disclosure
Any decision to disclose information will be considered carefully, and only information reasonably necessary in the circumstances will be shared.
Where it is appropriate and safe to do so, I will normally aim to discuss such a disclosure with you beforehand. There may, however, be circumstances in which this is not possible or appropriate.
15. Professional Supervision
As part of responsible and ethical practice, I undertake regular professional supervision.
Aspects of client work may be discussed with my supervisor for the purpose of reflection, professional development, ethical practice and maintaining the quality and safety of my work.
I minimise identifying information wherever reasonably possible.
My supervisor is also bound by professional duties of confidentiality.
16. Records and Personal Data
I may keep appropriate records relating to our work, including administrative information, communications and therapeutic records where appropriate.
Personal information is handled in accordance with applicable data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
More detailed information about:
what information I collect
why I collect it
the legal basis on which I process it
how it is stored
how long it is retained
when it may be shared
your data-protection rights
is contained in my Privacy Policy, which should be read alongside these Terms.
Because therapeutic and integration enquiries may involve sensitive personal information, including health-related information, this information is treated with particular care.
Please avoid submitting detailed sensitive or clinical information through the general website contact form unless it is necessary for your enquiry.
17. Fees and Payment
Fees are not published as part of these Terms.
The applicable fee will be communicated clearly to you before you agree to a paid session or piece of work.
Payment arrangements and payment details will be provided to you privately.
By confirming a paid appointment or beginning ongoing work, you agree to pay the fee that has been communicated and agreed with you.
Where the fee for ongoing work changes, I will give reasonable notice before the new fee takes effect.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Services will be provided with reasonable care and skill as required by applicable law.
18. Ending Therapy or Integration Work
You may decide to end our work at any time.
Where we have been meeting regularly, I encourage you to discuss ending with me rather than simply stopping sessions where possible.
Ending itself can be an important part of therapeutic work, and a planned final session or period of ending can provide space to reflect on the work we have done.
You are not, however, required to remain in therapy or integration work against your wishes.
I may also need to end or pause our work where, for example:
I believe your needs have moved outside my competence or scope of practice
another form of professional support is required
continuing the work would not be clinically or ethically appropriate
professional boundaries cannot be maintained
there are repeated difficulties with attendance or payment
circumstances mean that I am no longer able to provide the service
Where reasonably possible, I will discuss this with you and give appropriate notice.
Where appropriate, I may suggest alternative sources of professional support.
19. No Guarantee of Outcomes
Therapy, preparation, integration and harm-reduction work are individual processes.
I cannot guarantee:
a particular psychological outcome
symptom reduction
personal transformation
resolution of a particular difficulty
a particular interpretation or meaning of an experience
that a psychedelic or other expanded-state experience will be beneficial or free from difficulty
Any descriptions on this website of possible benefits, changes or experiences are illustrative and should not be understood as promises or guarantees.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
20. Scientific and Educational Content
My website contains information about neuroscience, consciousness, psychedelics, meditation, psychology and related areas of scientific research.
This material is provided for educational and informational purposes and should not be interpreted as personalised medical or psychiatric guidance.
Scientific understanding changes over time. Although I take reasonable care with the information I publish, research findings may subsequently be revised, challenged or superseded.
References to scientific studies should be understood within the limitations and context of the research concerned.
21. Intellectual Property

You may not, without prior permission:

22. External Websites
This website contains links to external websites, academic publications, organisations, booking services and other third-party resources.

You should review the terms and privacy policies of any external service you choose to use.
23. MeTruely
This website may link to MeTruely, which provides online programmes, courses and psychoeducational resources.
MeTruely offerings are separate from my individual therapy and Expanded States Preparation, Integration and Harm Reduction practice.
Purchases made through MeTruely are governed by the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy applicable to MeTruely.
MeTruely courses and resources are educational in nature and are not a substitute for individual therapy, medical treatment, psychiatric care or emergency support.
24. Professional Insurance
I maintain professional indemnity insurance appropriate to the professional services I provide.
The scope of any particular service remains subject to my professional competence, insurance and ethical obligations.
25. Concerns and Complaints
If you have a concern about our work together, I encourage you, where you feel able, to raise it with me so that we can try to understand and address it.
As a BACP member, my professional practice is also subject to the applicable BACP Ethical Framework and Professional Conduct Procedure.
Where applicable, clients may raise concerns or make a complaint through BACP. Information about the current complaints procedure is available through the BACP website.
Nothing in this section limits any legal rights you may have.
26. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to:
my services
professional requirements
applicable law
website functionality
professional or ethical guidance
The date of the most recent revision will appear at the top of this page.
Changes to these website Terms will not retrospectively alter the terms of an existing individual client agreement unless a change is separately agreed or is required by law or professional obligations.
27. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you may also benefit from mandatory protections available under the law of the country in which you live.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to restrict any rights you have under applicable consumer law.
